Got this plate for my dad’s 56 Chevy. I’ve never done it before but I have access to a sandblaster.

Get a big wind tunnel. Put some sand in it. Start said wind tunnel.

it’s super easy. really no tips other than, don’t get too close, don’t be too far, don’t go too slow, don’t go too fast, keep fingers away from sandblaster nozzle.

DON’T USE SAND!!! Using sand will fuck that thing up. Look into buying a finer media (walnut shell) or use a chemical converter. Using sand can etch and potentially warp the plate.

I was going to make a sex joke until I got to that last bit.

I mean, I was still going to but I just couldn’t make it work.

Came here to say this as well. The finest media possible would be best here. Hell, baking soda work in a pinch.

Aside from the blasting, is this going to be a vanity plate or the actual registered plate for the truck because I don't think you legally can run a 56 plate on a 58. Maybe that's just a rule here in Oregon but if your run a vintage plate it has to be the same year as the vehicle.

Today was a long day. It IS a 56 not a 58... temporary brain fart. He wants to have the plate restored then run it on his truck. Legal in AZ.

walnut shells or something really fine/soft. Thin metal will warp and aggressive sand will put the hell out of it.
